CMS Approves Ohio Medicaid Waiver To Add Work & Community Engagement Requirements
On March 18, 2019, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a Medicaid Section 1115 waiver for Ohio that will require certain beneficiaries aged 19 to 49 to work or participate in training or community service for at least 80 hours per month to continue qualifying for Medicaid. The state expects to implement the demonstration on January 1, 2021.
The waiver exempts certain groups from the work requirement. Including elected state exemptions for reasons such as a family emergency or illness, those exempted from the work requirements include:
