About 50% Children With Autism Have High Rates Of Co-Occurring Medical Disorders

About 50.2% of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have high rates of co-occurring medical condition (COC) diagnoses compared to children without ASD. Within this group, 26.5% have high rates of co-occurring developmental delay and seizures, and another 23.7% have high rates of co-occurring auditory disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and symptoms, immune disorders (such as asthma or allergies), psychiatric disorders, and sleep disorders. The remaining 49.8% of children with ASD had modestly elevated COC rates compared to children without ASD.
