Oklahoma Prison Population Tracked By New Online Tool

On July 2, 2019, Open Justice Oklahoma launched a tracking tool to monitor the size of the state’s prison population and the incarceration rate. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC) Tracker will be updated weekly with data from the Oklahoma DOC. As of July 15, 2019, there were 26,043 people in custody of the Oklahoma DOC and housed in public or private facilities.

At the end of December 2016, Oklahoma had the highest incarceration rate nationwide, with 1,310 prisoners in state prisons or local jails per 100,000 adults. In total, about 39,000 people were incarcerated . . .
