On July 1, 2019, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and Nebraska Medicine launched a primary care consultation program to improve statewide access to behavioral health services. The program provides consultation to primary care professionals (PCPs) to help them manage care for consumers with stable behavioral health disorders. During the first quarter of 2019, only about 8% of Nebraska Medicine psychiatrist visits were for new consumers; 92% were for follow-up visits. The goal is to build PCP capacity so that behavioral health specialists can transition stable individuals to a PCP, which is anticipated to create new specialty appointment . . .
