Connecticut Mental Health Parity Law Opens Access For Medications To Treat Addiction
On July 8, 2019, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed mental health parity legislation that prohibits mandatory step therapy and prior authorization for prescription drugs prescribed for the treatment of addiction disorders. Starting January 1, 2020, no individual or group health insurance policy shall apply a non-quantitative treatment limitation to mental health and substance use disorder benefits unless the policy applies such limitations to such benefits in a manner that is comparable to, and not more stringent than, the manner in which the policy applies such limitations to medical and surgical benefits.
