Post-Discharge Home-Delivered Meals ROI At 157% In Medicare Fee-For-Service
If traditional Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) covered a post-hospital discharge home-delivered meals benefit for beneficiaries with certain chronic conditions and functional impairments, the return-on-investment (ROI) is estimated at 157%. On average, each $1.00 spent on the meals program could generate savings of $1.57. Savings are generated by an estimated 13% reduction in readmissions. That estimate is based on findings from a literature review. Current readmission rates are estimated at 17.1%.
