New Illinois Law Will Fine Nursing Homes For Staffing Shortages
Under a new state law, Illinois nursing homes that fail to meet the state’s minimum required staffing level for direct care workers will be subject to fines starting in 2021. The law was part of the state budget bill signed on June 5, 2019. The provisions related to nursing homes requires that nursing homes provide each resident with 2.5 hours of direct nursing care daily, as mandated in a 2010 law that had not previously been enforced.
