Pennsylvania Auditor General Releases Recommendations To Build Long-Term Care Workforce Capacity
Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale recommends that the state build its long-term care workforce capacity to prepare for a projected 74% surge in the number of state residents over age 65 by 2040. The recommendations are directed to employers and state-level stakeholders.
The recommendations to employers were as follows:
Compensation should focus on increasing retention and reducing turnover by raising wages for direct care staff, increasing non-salary benefits, or offering opportunities to cross train and rotate physically and emotionally demanding direct care roles.
Nurses and aides should be included in organizational safety and care decisions.
