New York To Extend Medicaid Coverage To Incarcerated Individuals 30 Days Prior To Release

On October 31, 2019, the New York Medicaid program proposed to extend Medicaid services to incarcerated individuals in state or county facilities 30-days prior to release. Eligible individuals must have two or more chronic physical/behavioral health conditions, a serious mental illness, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or opioid use disorder. The New York Medicaid program also proposed to pilot specialized treatment in a therapeutic residential environment for individuals with mental health or substance use disorders that are accused, but not convicted, of a felony.
