California Governor Signs Bills To Support Criminal Justice Sentencing Reform & Reentry

On October 8, 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed bills to support criminal justice sentencing reform and reentry. One of the bills, Assembly Bill (AB) 484, eliminates the state’s mandatory 180-day jail stay as a condition of probation for drug offenses involving cocaine, heroin, or phencyclidine. Another, AB 1076, creates an automated record clearance system for low-level offenses to automatically expunge records of individuals previously convicted of low-level offenses.
