Home Hospitalization Reduced Cost, Health Care Use & Readmissions
Home hospitalization reduced consumer costs, reduced health care use, and resulted in readmission rates below that of consumers who were treated in a hospital. The mean cost of an acute care episode was about 38% lower for home hospital consumers compared to those who received traditional inpatient care. The 30-day hospital readmission rate for consumers receiving home hospital care was about 69% lower, at 7% for the home hospital compared to 23% for those in the comparison group.
