North Carolina Intensive Care Management Program Cut Per Person Per Month Medicaid Spend By Nearly 4%

Community Care of North Carolina's (CCNC's) Intensive Care Management Program for Medicaid beneficiaries with chronic conditions reduced the total per member per month (PMPM) Medicaid spend by 3.6%, from $183.96 PMPM in 2012 to $177.34 in 2018. Emergency department visits dropped by 12.6%, from 62.8 emergency department visits per 1,000 member months in 2012 to 54.9 visits in 2018. Inpatient admissions dropped by 27%, from 5.4 inpatient admissions for every 1,000 member months in 2012, to 3.9 inpatient admissions in 2018.
