Youth In Families With Prescribed Opioids At Increased Risk Of Overdose
Youth with a family member taking prescription opioids have twice the risk of opioid overdose. Youth prescribed opioids were at six times the risk of overdose. The risk of overdose was 13 times higher for youth who had an opioid prescription who also had a family member prescribed opioids.
High dosage of total morphine milligram equivalents (MME) prescribed to family members in the past month was associated with youth overdose.
