More Than 20% Of Nursing Homes Report Severe PPE & Staff Shortages To Prevent COVID-19
More than 20% of nursing homes reported severe shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) and staff from May through July 2020. Through mid-June, about 20.7% reported a severe shortage of PPE (less than one -week supply), and 20.8% reported shortages of direct care staff. Through mid-July, 19.1% reported PPE shortages, and 21.9% reported staff shortages. Shortages were more often reported by facilities with active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases among residents and staff, more Medicaid residents, and those with lower quality scores.
