Review Of The Department Of Justice’s Planning & Implementation Of Its Zero Tolerance Policy & Its Coordination With The Departments Of Homeland Security & Health & Human Services
On January 13, 2021, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the federal Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) released this review of the planning and implementation by the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) before it implemented its "Zero Tolerance" policy on asylum seekers and immigrants who entered the country illegally. The OIG reviewed the DOJ coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and HHS. Under the "Zero Tolerance" policy, DHS referred all adults entering the country illegally to the DOJ for criminal prosecution.
