Many Health Plans Must Now Cover Full Cost Of HIV Prevention Drugs
Starting in January 2021, most health plans must cover at least one of the drugs taken to treat human immunodeficiency viruses (HIVs), also known as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), without cost sharing. PrEP drugs in this category include Truvada, Descovy, and a new generic version of Truvada called Descovy. The only exemptions are for plans grandfathered from compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
