Medicare Home Health Value-Based Purchasing Reduces Costs Without Adverse Effects On Access To Care

During the first three years of the Medicare Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) model, in the nine model states unplanned hospitalizations and stays in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) declined without adverse effects on access to care. The model has resulted in an average 4.6% improvement in home health agencies’ quality scores as well as average annual savings of $141 million to Medicare.
