May 1, 2011 The Office of Inspector General (OIG) evaluated the extent to which elderly nursing home residents receive atypical antipsychotic drugs and the associated cost to Medicare. Using Medicare claims data and the Minimum Data Set, the investigators identified Medicare claims and payments for atypical antipsychotic drugs for elderly (i.e., aged 65 and older) nursing home residents from January 1 through June 30, 2007.
