31 States Expanded Medicaid Reimbursement For School-Based Telehealth Services During The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

After the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency began in March 2020, 31 states expanded Medicaid reimbursement for school-based telehealth services. Prior to the public health emergency, 24 state Medicaid programs allowed reimbursement for telehealth services provided in school settings. Half of states reimburse for telehealth services needed as part of an individualized education program (IEP) or telehealth Medicaid Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) services.
