Alabama Receives CMS Approval For Intellectual Disabilities HCBS Waiver
On October 21, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved Alabama’s Community Waiver Program, an 1115 demonstration aimed at expanding access to home and community-based services (HCBS), especially for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Through the approval, Alabama will now be able to redesign its HCBS delivery system to address concerns such as long waiting lists, high use of residential services and out-of-home placements, and low integrated community employment rates among residents.
