Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Deemed Safe To Slow Cognitive Decline For Elderly Veterans
Use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to slow cognitive decline is generally safe in an elderly veteran population with cognitive impairment and multiple co-morbidities. In a clinical trial, those assigned to active rTMS had more improvement in their auditory-verbal memory at the end of treatment, and at a four-month follow-up, compared to a group of participants who were given "sham" rTMS.
