A Third Of Federal Inmates Not Employed At Any Point Five Years Post Release

About 33% of federal inmates released in 2010 had no record of formal employment during any quarter over the next four years, and 67% were employed for one or more quarters. Of those who did have records of formal employment following release, no more than 40% were employed in any of the individual 16 quarters between 2010 and 2014. About 19% of released inmates were returned to a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facility at some point between 2010 and 2014.
