CMS To Cut Nursing Home Payments By 4.6%, Seeks Comment On Minimum Staffing Standards For Long-Term Care Facilities

In the 2023 Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System (PPS) proposed rule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) cut payments to skilled nursing facilities by 4.6%, and announced plans to issue proposed rules on a minimum staffing level requirement for nursing homes within one year. The 2023 payment cut is an adjustment to correct for unintentional overpayments in the transition to the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM). Net Medicare Part A payments to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) will decline by $320 million. This will be in addition to SNF-value-based purchasing reductions estimated at $186 million . . .
