Kentucky Updates To Assisted Living Laws Require Memory Care Units To Obtain Specific Licensure

A Kentucky law signed on March 18, 2022, requires assisted living facilities in the state that offer dementia care units to secure a license to operate the unit, and those offering a secured dementia care unit will need a secondary license. Previously, assisted living communities were required to obtain certification, and were not required to obtain anything separate for dementia care units. The law applies to any assisted living community that is “advertised, marketed or otherwise promoted” as providing specialized care for residents with dementia and to those with a secure dementia care unit.
