Tennessee’s New Education Funding Formula Raises State Investment By 16%
On May 2, 2022, Governor Bill Lee signed House Bill 2143: Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA). The bill adds more than $1 billion (16%) to the state’s funding for education funding formula, for a total of more than $6.2 billion in funding during the first year.
Starting in the 2023 through 2024 school year, the TISA allots a base per-student amount, with additional funding added based on student populations, including English learners or those living in poverty. Data included in the formula is verified by a third party and subject to escalated inspections and audits.
