Average Autism Prevalence Among U.S. Children At Three Percent
About 3.14% of children and adolescents ages 3 to 17 years in the United States were living with autism in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, the prevalence of autism was 2.79%, while it was 3.49% in 2020. This means the average autism prevalence over the two-year span was 3.14%. The prevalence of autism was higher among boys (4.64%) than girls (1.56%).
Among non-Hispanic white children, the prevalence of autism was 3.17%. Among non-Hispanic Black children, the prevalence was 3.64%. Among Hispanic children, the prevalence was 2.88%.
