Kansas Enacts Full Practice Authority For Nurse Practitioners
Kansas is implementing new policies to allow advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs - also called nurse practitioners), to practice independently. Under this new approach, APRNs can practice independently, with no requirement that they be supervised by a licensed physician. APRNs practicing independently will be required to maintain malpractice insurance and national certification. The state anticipates that the expanded responsibility for APRNs will help reduce local and regional care gaps, especially in rural areas of the state.
The new policy is the result of Senate Substitute for Kansas House Bill 2279, which was signed on April 15, 2022. Starting on July 1 . . .
