About 80% of behavioral health provider organizations are using telehealth for at least 60% of consumer visits, according to a national survey conducted by Qualifacts Systems, Inc., and the National Council for Behavioral Health. The survey asked National Council member organizations about the role virtual care has had on their businesses during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency.
Additionally, the results showed about 70% of the respondents said that going forward they believe that at least 40% of their services will be provided using telehealth and virtual care technologies. Regarding revenue, about 64% reported lower revenue during the COVID-19 public health emergency, and most reported a decrease in no-show rates. About 20% said they need a new electronic health record (EHR) to support the increase in virtual services.
The survey asked behavioral health provider organizations how virtual care has affected their operations. More than 1,000 provider organizations that deliver behavioral health, addiction, and intellectual and developmental disabilities completed the survey. The questions asked the provider organizations how they were handling a remote workflow, how operations and revenue were affected, and whether they intended to implement new technology solutions to support virtual care.
Qualifacts provides the CareLogic EHR platform for behavioral health and human service organizations. The National Council for Behavioral Health is a trade organization with 3,326 member organizations that deliver mental health and addictions treatment and services.
