Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), a health care provider organization and medical teaching facility in southern West Virginia, joined the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network. The network is a national collaborative aimed at strengthening and expanding access to quality services and resources for people and families affected by addiction. CAMC expands the network’s reach and brings in significant experience and expertise helping babies, mothers, and pregnant women who have been affected by addiction disorder.
CAMC is a non-profit, 956-bed, regional referral center and teaching facility; it is the flagship of the CAMC Health System. CAMC’s “Women’s Health Addiction Program” and “Babies First” programs are supported by a perinatal clinic, where women can receive addiction disorder treatment throughout pregnancy, and a neonatal intensive-care unit that helps keep babies healthy and families together. As CAMC expands its behavioral health offerings further, it intends to leverage its membership in the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network to help bolster medication-assisted treatment services for consumers with opioid use disorder and establish therapeutic resources for young children whose families have been affected by addiction.
The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient treatment for adults and youth. It has 17 locations nationwide and collaborates with an expansive network throughout health care. Hazelden was founded in 1949, and in 2014 merged with the Betty Ford Center. The organization also provides a graduate school of addiction studies, a publishing division, an addiction research center, recovery advocacy and thought leadership, professional and medical education programs, school-based prevention resources, and a specialized program for children who grow up in families with addiction.
