A couple weeks ago we had some great discussions about the need for new leadership in health and human services (both due to a wave of retirements and new competency requirements)—and the pathway for clinical professionals to gain the skills needed to assume leadership roles in their organization (see From Clinician To Manager-Rethinking Best Practice). Leaders of health and human services organizations do not need to be clinical professionals. But, I think organizations are losing out by not grooming their clinical talent for those management/executive leadership roles—including the role of chief executive officer (CEO).
