The five publicly traded companies—Centene, CVS Health, Elevance, Molina, and UnitedHealth—control half of the U.S. Medicaid managed care organization (MCO) enrollment, according to the new report, A Look At Medicaid Enrollment And Finances Of The Five Largest Medicaid Managed Care Plans. Centene leads with 20% of the Medicaid managed care market, followed by Elevance (11%), UnitedHealth (9%), Molina (6%), and Aetna/CVS (3%).
Enrollment in Medicaid health plans grew during the pandemic. And for these five organizations, as of September 2024, combined Medicaid enrollment across the five firms was 6.2 million (or 20%) higher than enrollment . . .
