Oss, Chief Executive Officer Growth in federal government spending on health care increased 36.0% in 2020 (see National Health Expenditures 2020 Highlights and National Health Expenditures by type of service and source of funds, CY 1960-2020). This included financial assistance to provider organizations to make up for lost revenue through the Provider Relief Fund ($122 billion in 2020) and the Paycheck Protection Program ($53 billion in 2020).
