I had some interesting discussions this week with specialty provider organization executives about the impact of managed care and value-based reimbursement (VBR)—discussions that seemed a bit out of sync with the current state of the field. Some comments during the discussion were that the influence of health plans in the field is on the wane and that value-based reimbursement is a “nothing burger”. I think those assessments of the current environment are off the mark.
