The Medicaid RFP Cycle
On March 12, 2024, the Kentucky State Supreme Court upheld a lower court decision ruling that five insurance providers will continue to oversee $15 billion in annual Medicaid contracts (see Kentucky Supreme Court tie vote leaves Medicaid managed care contracts in place). Anthem subsidiary Elevance Health sued after it was not chosen among the contracts to distribute Medicaid in 2019. Anthem cited bidding irregularities and other flaws in the contract bidding. The Kentucky ruling confirms that the five companies originally awarded Medicaid business in 2019 will remain in charge of care for most of the 1.5 million people.
