What A Difference A State Makes
A new look at health insurance coverage—Health Insurance Coverage By State: 2023 And 2024—found that the uninsured rate for all ages increased in 18 states and the District of Columbia and declined in two states from 2023 to 2024. As a result, the national uninsured rate rose to 8.2% in 2024 from 7.9% in 2023.
For working-age adults (ages 19 to 64), the uninsured rate increased in 17 states and the District of Columbia. For children (under 19), the uninsured rate increased in 19 states during the same time period.
