12% of U.S. Adults Experienced Symptoms of Depression in 2010
In 2010, an estimated 12% of adults over the age of 18 in the United States reported experiencing feelings of sadness all, most, or some of the time; this is approximately 27 million people. Three percent of the population (7 million people) reported that they experienced sadness all or most of the time. The population-level estimate is based on responses to the 2010 National Health Interview Survey.
