Health Information Exchange Helps To Identify Frequent Users Of Emergency Departments
Health information exchange (HIE) can help to identify individuals who are frequent users of hospital emergency departments, and is more useful in recognizing these individuals than site-specific data. A recent study of 10 hospitals in New York city that are participating in the New York Clinical Health Information Exchange (NYCLIX) reveled that 20.3% more frequent emergency department users were identified through the health information exchange than through an examination of hospital specific data.
