Between 2003 and 2011, average premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance for a family increased by 62%, from $9,249 to $15,022—an average annual increase of 8%. During the same period, deductibles for family coverage more than doubled, from $1,079 to $2,220. If these growth trends continue as they have historically, it is estimated that by 2015, average premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance for a family will reach $18,751 and by 2020 premiums will reach $24,740.
