Arizona $1.4 Billion Budget Deficit Driving 15% Cuts to Social Services; Next Year Will Be Worse

For the coming fiscal year that starts in July 2010, the state projects a deficit of $3.2 billion. Over the past three years state revenues have dropped by 40%. To address the current fiscal year deficit, in November 2009, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer asked all state agencies to propose how they could cut 15% from their approved 2009-2010 budgets.
