More Than Half Of Provider Organizations Offer Electronic Patient Portals
More than half of health care provider organizations surveyed already offer patients an online portal to access medical records and communicate with health care professionals. Most of those organizations look to their existing electronic medical record vendor to provide a patient portal solution, rather than seek a new vendor. The federal Meaningful Use Stage 2 criteria for earning incentive payments for using health information technology requires that health care provider organizations have at least five percent of patients using a portal in order for the organization to qualify for the Medicare or Medicare incentives.
