Wal-Mart Joins Arkansas Health Care Payment Improvement Initiative
On January 10, 2013, the Arkansas Health Care Payment Improvement Initiative (APII) and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. the state’s largest self-insured employer announced that Wal-Mart had joined the state’s initiative to transform how payers reimburse for health care services from fee-for-service to a shared savings model focused on episodes of care. As part of the agreement, Walmart will serve on the new APII Employer Advisory Council and will fund the development and distribution of information to the public explaining how payments are being restructured.
