U.S. Civilian Health Care Spending Estimated at $1.26 Trillion in 2009
In 2009, there was an estimated total of $1.26 trillion paid for health care received by the approximately 259.4 million U.S. civilian non-institutionalized population, a 20% increase over the $1.03 trillion paid in 2006. The $1.26 trillion in 2009 translates to a per person mean annual expense of $4,855 per person per year, which is 19% higher than the $4,078 mean per person annual expense in 2006.
