CMS Starts Bonuses for Medicare E-Prescribing
OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Strategic Health Care News In January 2009, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) began paying physicians and other eligible prescribers a bonus to e-prescribe. In 2009 and 2010 the bonus will be about two-percent of charges billed to Medicare; by 2013 the bonus will decline to 0.5%. In 2012 CMS will impose a one-percent reimbursement penalty for physicians who do not e-prescribe for Medicare patients. The reimbursement penalty will increase to two-percent in 2014.
