FDA Approves First Mobile Diagnostic Radiology App

On February 4, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Mobile MIM—the first ever diagnostic radiology application approved for mobile devices. The HIPAA compliant application allows off-site physicians to view medical images, such as X-rays or MRIs, on iPhone and iPad devices. The Mobile MIM application is free to download from the Apple App Store; the download includes sample images to demonstrate the various functions—measuring distances and image intensity values, displaying measurement lines, annotations, and focusing on regions of interest.
