Minnesota Expands Medical Assistance Program to Low-Income Childless Adults
On March 1, 2011, Minnesota expanded eligibility for its Medical Assistance program to low-income adults without children in the home. The expansion replaces the state-funded General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) and augments MinnesotaCare. The two programs provided coverage to about 83,000 people. An additional 12,000 people who are currently uninsured are expected to enroll in the Medical Assistance program.
