CMS Clarifies Eligibility Requirements For Medicaid Expansion Under The Affordable Care Act

On March 16, 2012, the federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS)  released new rules to clarify the eligibility requirements for Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The key elements in the new rules expand access to the Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), establish eligibility and enrollment provisions for health insurance exchanges, simplify the application and renewal processes for the program, eliminate obsolete eligibility categories, and establish a single income standard for determining eligibility. When the new rules go into effect on January 1, 2014, there will be only four Medicaid eligibility categories . . .
