47 States Upgrading Medicaid Enrollment Systems To Meet Health Reform Requirements
As of January 1, 2013, 47 states had applied for or received increased federal funds to make major upgrades to Medicaid enrollment systems required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA). By 2014, all state Medicaid programs must have web-based, paperless, real-time enrollment processes that will rely on electronic data and minimize administrative burdens on individuals and eligibility workers. Federal regulations released in 2012 outlined the requirements for all Medicaid programs; 42 states had already begun their system development work.
