April 2, 2001 Study: Most Western Hemisphere Nations Need to Improve Drug Prevention Efforts Twenty-five of 34 Western Hemisphere nations must strengthen their drug prevention efforts, a recent study finds. Also, 28 nations must implement a system to estimate drug consumption, and 29 nations must develop the ability to estimate the cost of their drug problem. These were some of the findings of 34 reports released on February 1, 2001 by the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism, a part of the Organization of American States (OAS). The findings of these reports will be discussed by hemispheric leaders at their next summit . . .
