For-Profit Hospitals Outperform Non-Profit & Public Hospitals On Medicare Value-Based Purchasing Emergency Department Measures
Emergency departments at for-profit hospitals have better performance on Medicare value-based purchasing (VBP) measures than emergency departments at non-profit or public hospitals. The Medicare VBP has four measures related to emergency department care for patients with stroke, heart attack, and pneumonia. OF the 2,927 hospitals that qualified for the VBP, for-profit hospitals had an average performance score of 50; non-profit hospitals had an average score of 35; and public hospitals had an average score of 30.
