District Of Columbia Medicaid Picks AmeriHealth To Assume Operations Of DC Chartered Health Plan
On April 5, 2013, the Washington D.C. Department of Health Care Finance announced that AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies (rebranded AmeriHealth Caritas, as of April 15) will assume operations of DC Chartered Health Plan Inc., formerly the city’s largest Medicaid insurer, starting May 1, 2013. DC Chartered voluntarily entered receivership since October 2012 due to losses; in 2011 it lost more than $9 million.
